www.elpasotimes.com/sports/ci_12483016EL PASO -- As the El Paso Generals' 5-2 record shows, the team does a bunch of things well.
Perhaps the two best, though, are winning at home and rebounding from a loss.
They are in both of those situations after a 45-35 loss at Abilene that narrowed their lead in the Lone Star Division of the Indoor Football League, and they'll look to get back on track Saturday at home against the San Angelo Stampede Express (7 p.m. kickoff at the El Paso County Coliseum).
This is the first of two consecutive home games against the Stampede Express, which is quarterbacked by former Texas Tech star Sonny Cumbie.
"Anytime you are familiar with your surroundings, when you get to sleep in your own bed and not have to worry about travel, it gives you a boost," Generals coach Brian Brents said. "It especially gives you a boost when you have a great home crowd like we do."
So far, that's translated into a 3-0 home record. In those wins, the Generals have won by an average margin of victory of 35.6 points. While they only are 2-2 on the road, that does include a 53-33 win at San Angelo earlier this month.
The Stampede Express (3-4), meanwhile, finally snapped a four-game losing streak with a 52-50 victory at Corpus Christi last week.
"Their offense is getting in a groove with Sonny Cumbie at quarterback," Brents said. "They've played good football games the past two weeks. We've got to get on them early."
So far this year, that hasn't proved a problem after a loss. El Paso has followed up both losses with big wins.......article continues in link.
