EL PASO -- The first month of the El Paso Generals' existence has gone well.
Good can go to something even better than that Saturday in San Angelo, and that's the goal when El Paso hits the road with a chance to get to 4-1.
"We're definitely trying to get into that mind set," coach Brian Brents said when asked if this was a chance to gain some separation in the Lone Star Division of the Indoor Football League. "The last couple of years (in Tupelo, Miss.) we've gotten into the playoffs and gotten the short end of the stick for playoff seeds.
"As a team, we're striving to make sure that doesn't happen. We want to hold them to 20 to 30 points and make sure this doesn't come back to hurt us."
The team has two other built-in motivators this weekend. After playing Corpus Christi three times in the first four games, this represents someone new. It also represents the third road trip, and the first one -- a 37-17 loss to a Corpus team they drubbed twice at home -- didn't go well. The Generals bounced back with a good victory at winless Odessa, but this continues the process of building into a strong road team.
"That first road game was a tell-tale of how many young guys we have," Brents said. "We learned from it. That was the best thing that could happen. Our guys have a different mentality now, that this is a business trip. We're prepared for it now."
They are also preparing for someone other than Corpus for only the second time this year.
"When you end up having to play the same team over and over and over, it feels like you're playing yourself back at the beginning of the year.
"It's nice to play a different color jersey."......article continues in link.
