As with any expansion franchise, the Houma Conquerors have experienced their share of problems in their first two weeks as a Southern Indoor Football League team.
And last Sunday nearly 900 fans got a first-hand look at those problems when the team played its first home game against the Austin Turfcats in the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.
Whether it was on or off the field Sunday, the Conquerors had trouble doing anything right.
SIFL officials delayed the game for more than two hours because protective padding wasn’t installed along the walls of the playing field in the Civic Center, posing a safety hazard for the players.
The delay left volunteers scrambling to pad the walls, coaches and players wondering if the game would be played or cancelled and fans waiting outside the Civic Center until the problem was fixed. The doors finally opened at 6:15 p.m., and the game kicked off at 7:20 p.m.
And when the game finally started, the Conquerors failed to show up, falling behind by 26 points at halftime and eventually losing, 64-32.

But there’s really no excuse for what happened in the Civic Center on Sunday.
From the management all the way down to the players, the Conquerors just weren’t ready for the home opener. What I watched on Sunday was a franchise that lacked preparation and organization, despite having two months to make sure everything was ready to go on time for its first home game.......article continues in link.
