Coach pledges indoor football team will battle
There is bad luck, and then there is just plain piling on.
The Ogden Knights knew their inaugural season would be a tough one, and a 0-5 record after the first month is enough to shake the Knights' steepest resolve.
But as Ogden traveled to Casper, Wyo., Thursday night to play the league-leading Wyoming Cavalry, coach Mike Mink is glad to have last week behind him.
Last Saturday, the Knights fell to their expansion rival from Orem 55-17. To add insult to several injuries -- more on that later -- thieves entered the Knights' locker room just before halftime and stole an estimated $3,000 in cash and personal items.
Utah Valley University and Orem police are investigating, Mink said, and have promised restitution.
"It's been a tough time, to say the least," Mink said.
Now, the Knights face 5-0 Casper, a team that rarely loses on its home turf.
Mink said his AIFA squad will be without the services of starting quarterback Brendon Doyles for 2-6 weeks, while starters Maurice Bryant, Sepeti Moala, Todd Perry and Corey Seiuli will also be out two weeks due to injuries suffered in the Thunder game or previous games.
"A lot of guys on our bench are going to get great game experience," Mink said. "We have guys that work hard and we hope to get big things out of them."
Jeff Wissler will start under center for the Knights, who are averaging 34.2 points per game, low by indoor football standards. Adrian Conway, James Owens and Lawrence Walker will also see extra snaps, Mink added.
Earlier this season, Wyoming topped Ogden 58-44 at the Golden Spike Events Center, then rolled over the Knights 77-33 six days later in Casper.......article continues in link.
