www.theadvertiser.com/article/20090418/SPORTS/904180324/1006Indoor football will get a second chance in Lafayette.
The Acadiana Mudbugs, members of the Southern Indoor Football League, make their debut on the road at 6:30 p.m. tonight against the Austin Turfcats.
And the franchise, owned and operated by Bentley Turner, is hoping to fare better than its indoor football predecessor - the Lafayette Roughnecks.
"The difference, I truly believe, is we are locally owned and managed," Turner said. "A lot of players are local, they've either gone to high school locally or played at UL. We're going to be more community-based, instead of an outside group run by someone in Florida."
The Roughnecks were a member of arenafootball2 and were owned by a group out of Tampa.
The team lasted only one season in af2 and routinely played to an empty arena at the Cajundome
The Mudbugs feel they have the formula to success and it boils down to one word - local.
The six franchises are all within driving distance of each other, with three teams in South Louisiana and two teams in East Texas.......article continues in link.
