With Houma set to release its final 27-man active roster sometime today or early Tuesday, Thomas said the last batch of cuts were difficult to make and that many of those players could be back on the team sometime during the inaugural Southern Indoor Football League season.
“It’s a shame we had to cut anybody, but that’s the nature of the business,” Thomas said just before the team broke training camp Saturday at the Bayou Black Recreation Center. “I told them not to just go home and lay around and get out of shape. Most of those guys will be reserves. It’s a long season, and there are injuries in this game. I told them they are only a phone call away, so stay in shape.”
Houma opens the season Sunday on the road in Houston against the Texas Pirates at 7 p.m.
“Right now, I’m pretty pleased with the chemistry and camaraderie of the team,” Thomas said. “We still have a few guys out of shape and learning the game, but with a first-year team and some first-year players, that’s expected.”......article continues in link.
