EL PASO -- The Indoor Football League schedule is an odd thing.
A week after the El Paso Generals had their franchise opener at home against Corpus Christi, they have to load up the bus and drive across the state to play the same team they just beat 50-17.
That could be considered a good quirk of scheduling, but the Generals are paid not to see it that way.
"It's tough playing a team twice, much less back-to-back," coach Brian Brents said.
"That's really tough," receiver DeAngelo Woodie said. "We have to prepare for homecoming things they are going to have at their home field.
"We have to go over the mistakes we made and make sure we get that corrected. We're preparing for them to be a better team this week."
Corpus would just about have to be better than the team that El Paso drilled last weekend, and indeed the team picked up a big-time reinforcement in former Kansas State star quarterback Michael Bishop.
Bishop, who won the Davey O'Brien Trophy in 1988 that goes to the best collegiate quarterback, is a veteran of the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League.
"That's a big addition," Brents said. "We need to come out and take care of our business and play disciplined football."
While the typical fan wouldn't see much to improve on from the 33-point win last week, Brents and the team saw plenty of places where they can be better.
"We came out slowly, we talked to the offense about coming out faster," Brents said. "Our defense helped us win the ballgame, then we came along offensively and took over.
"We need to start faster on offense.
"We always have things to work on. Like the New England Patriots, we have to have some humble pie. We saw a lot of things special-teams wise, and also offensively and defensively."
Woodie knows one place the offense can be better.......article continues in link.
