www.elpasotimes.com/sports/ci_12070033EL PASO -- On some level, even coach Brian Brents doesn't know what to expect when his expansion El Paso Generals make their Indoor Football League debut Saturday night against the Corpus Christi Hammerheads.
"It's definitely a process, a grueling process," he said of starting a new franchise, even though this is the third time he's been a part of an expansion team. "I definitely don't see myself going anywhere else soon. I don't want to have to start up a new team next year."
On another level, Brents knows what everyone who shows up at the Coliseum can expect.
"I always say we play a Steve Spurrier-type system -- fun and gun," Brents said. "We're going to throw the ball around. I'm not one who likes to throw the short pass. I like to air it out."
His quarterback, Tommy Jones, who played for Brents last season in Tupelo, Miss., put it another way.
"In most games, we're going to score 40 to 50 points," Jones said. "We averaged 63 points per game last year, we've scored 80 points before.
"Then we sign autographs after the game. It's going to be a good atmosphere."
The Generals team that takes the field will have plenty of veteran players, but it also is long on youth. "The camaraderie around the team is fantastic," Brents said.
Obviously, the Generals team that takes the field Saturday won't be a finished product, but then again, neither will the Hammerheads, one of the founding franchises of the Intense Football League that merged with United Indoor Football this offseason to form the Indoor Football League.......article continues in link.
