Gary L. Smith, who spent 20 years as a US Air Force chaplain, will serve as the first chaplain to the newly formed Austin Turfcats of the Southern Indoor Football League Team.
Smith said, “God, family, the church and sports…four loves of my life for my entire adult life. I have always loved playing sports, being around the sports world, and writing about the sports world and its tremendous impact on our society and history. This is exciting to me to become a spiritual component of a professional sports team. It is a dream come true for me to be able to be the minister to the athletes, the men and women who run the organization, the family members of the athletes, and to help establish a tone of professionalism that is redeeming for the athletes, the families and the community around the team.” .....article continues in link.
