It was the 2012 IFL opener for both teams.
The Ice led 9-0 after one quarter but trailed 18-15 at halftime. The Stars boosted their lead to 32-22 after three quarters, and the Ice played catch-up the rest of the game.
Colorado's points in the first half came on a safety, a touchdown by running back Andrew Harris and two field goals and an extra point by kicker Aric Goodman.
David Knighton's TD pass to Mark Henderson and Goodman's PAT accounted for the Ice's seven third-quarter points. Knighton threw TD passes to Ken Witter and Reynard Reynolds in the fourth quarter, and Goodman kicked a field goal and two PATs, but Colorado couldn't regain the lad.
The Ice attempted an onside kick twice in the fourth quarter but couldn't recover the ball. New Mexico ended the game by kneeling on the 5-yard line.
Colorado is back in action at 3 p.m. March 4 in its home opener against the Wyoming Wranglers.
