Reading, opening its seventh season, took a 3-0 lead less than four minutes into the game on a 27-yard field goal by Erik Rockhold.
But Andre Raymond sandwiched two short touchdown runs around a 38-yard touchdown pass from Dusty Burk to John Cooper to give the Edge (1-1) a 21-3 lead after one quarter.
Quarterback A.J. McKenna and wide receiver Joshua Floyd kept the Express close. McKenna, making his debut with the Express, threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. Two of the TD passes were to Floyd, including a 38-yarder midway through the second quarter.
Floyd also returned a kickoff 57 yards for a touchdown.
Floyd, the IFL leader in all-purpose yardage last year with West Texas, caught four passes for 53 yards. T.J. Porter led the Express with seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown.
McKenna completed 19-of-35 passes for 172 yards and also ran 12 times for 56 yards.
The Express did not commit a turnover, but McKenna was sacked four times.
The Express will play its home opener in the Sovereign Center Friday at 7 p.m. against Green Bay.
