SIOUX FALLS, SD - If you're missing football at the moment, you're in luck, the Storm kick off its season this Sunday at the Arena.
Sioux Falls is coming off a year in which they claimed an IFL title, the franchise's fifth national championship.
The Storm has several key players back for what they hope will be another run plus they've added a few talented newbies.
After a two season drought, the Storm was glad to get back on top last year and expectations are, of course, high once again.
“We're excited. We feel like we have a great team. We have a great mix of old and new veteran players,” Storm Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs said.
Gone are United Bowl MVP and Linebacker Brian McIntyre but 3-time League MVP and quarterback Chris Dixon has returned. He's excited about the array of targets he'll get to choose from come Sunday including former Hawkeye and Wichita Wild receiver Clinton Solomon.
“Clinton Solomon is definitely what everybody thinks he is. He's brought a little more swag to Carl Sims. The two together have been a great combination. I think Lorenzo Brown is going to be the most surprising,” Storm Quarterback Chris Dixon said.
On the defensive side, Riggs says the strength will be the defensive line with Rachman Crable and Cory Johnsen.
“And then we got Jeremiah Price in the trade for James Terry. Sean Kelly has been a huge addition for us. And then Tory Collins too, those five guys are a pretty formidable front,” Riggs said.
While many of the new players are getting used to their new team, the veterans are making sure they know what the Storm are all about.
“We have a good core of veteran guys that kind of establish the mindset right away to the new guys that we're not playing just to play. We're playing to win another championship,” Riggs said.
“The most bragging rights anybody can have in this league is to say that beat us. Any other win doesn't matter,” Dixon said.
