www.romenews-tribune.com/view/full_story/17130170/article-Rampage-offices-empty?instance=sports_page_secondary_storyThe Rampage, Rome’s new indoor football team set to kick off play next month, has hit a roadblock close to the start of their inaugural season.
The offices of the Ultimate Indoor Football League team, located at 318 Broad Street, were empty on Friday.
When reached by the Rome News-Tribune for comment, team president and general manager Kacee Smith said he is in the process of trying to buy the team from team owner and UIFL owner and CEO Cecil Van Dyke. Van Dyke owns six teams in the UIFL.
According to Smith, Van Dyke lost his investors backing.
“That’s put us in jeopardy,” said Smith. “So we’re racing the clock trying to buy out the Rome team. We’ve got conference calls all weekend.”
An owners meeting for the league was originally scheduled for this weekend, but with many of the teams with no funding, Smith and others will try to figure out what to do via conference calls.
“The league, what they’re doing is trying to fix everything,” said Smith. “So they want everyone to hang on. This really caught us off guard. Hopefully, Monday we’ll know something. What stinks about Rome is we’re a first-year team. The other teams may be okay. They have all their assets. We’re trying to save the Rome team right now.”
