BINGHAMTON - Several teams when naming a new sports franchise have taken the approach of getting the community involved to name the team. In Binghamton, this is even more of a necessity as this area is one without a professional football team to call their own. WBNG has been running a Name-the-Team contest for the Binghamton Indoor Football team over the past 2 weeks, with this third and final week becoming a finalist week for the fans to vote. With roughly 450 names thrown into the hat, Binghamton Indoor Football is proud to announce that those names have been narrowed down to the final four. The top four names are Jets, Blitz, Bomb Squad, and Burn.
"It was a difficult process of going through all the names put in, but these were the ones that stood out as being popular by the community. There were tons of great selections and it was very hard to select just four. When selecting the names, we considered area ties, recent teams, and marketing strategies to provide ourselves with 4 choices that we would be happy with. We really want this to be Binghamton's team, and now we want the fans to narrow it down to the final one." said Assistant General Manager, Chris Blake.
Binghamton joins the Atlantic Division of the Indoor Football League. The Indoor Football League was created in 2008 from a merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football Association. It consists of 27 teams located across the United States from Alaska to Richmond, VA.
