BINGHAMTON - In a city that has supported minor league sports for so long, Binghamton now has a unique opportunity. With the recent launch of the "Name Our Team" contest, anyone has the opportunity to submit an entry to name the city's new indoor football franchise.
A city that has had minor league hockey in the city since the 1970s, now has the Binghamton Senators. The Senators were fortunate to have a parent club to name their team. The Binghamton Mets, who are celebrating their 20th season this year, also share their team name with their parent organization.
But in the world of football, there is no affiliated minor league structure. So when it came time to select a name that would symbolize and represent the franchise, business partners, Chris Blake and Matt Custer, decided to leave it up to the whole Southern Tier to, "Name their Team".
General Manager, Matt Custer spoke today about his involvement with WBNG and their naming contest that is currently running for the next 3 weeks online. "With no true team to call their own outside of the high school football level, bringing a professional football team to the area that can be "their" team makes the most sense. If it's going to be their team, I want the fans involved every step of the way, from naming the franchise, to logo design, to even team colors."
Anyone is allowed to submit their vote by going to WBNG Channel 12 Action News webpage. From there follow the Contests tab to find the link to vote for the Binghamton Indoor Football team name.
