The Indoor Football League is extremely pleased to announce that the league will be expanding into Binghamton, NY in 2012. This geographically sound venue will help the league fill out the east coast, and bring in fierce competition to its Atlantic Division for seasons to come!
“We are excited to welcome some great new faces into the IFL family for 2012; I love the idea of a team in Binghamton. With the Binghamton area’s already great fan base, the Indoor Football League should be a great fit”, states Commissioner, Tommy Benizio.
Residents of the Southern Tier have been looking for a professional football team to call their own ever since the BC Jets last took the field. That search will soon be over, as the Greater Binghamton area will have a new team to celebrate touchdowns with. The IFL brings a strong backbone of structure and organization, as the addition of Binghamton will help to strengthen the growth of indoor football in the Northeast.
In February, Binghamton is scheduled to have a team to cheer on, this one on a quest for a United Bowl Championship. As businessmen, Matt Custer and Chris Blake saw the success of the semi-pro teams such as the TC and BC Jets and knew their vision for football in the area could succeed in the same atmosphere. Many things have changed since the days of these semi-pro teams and this vision is different as well, but the dedication that the sponsors and fans have shown to football in the Southern Tier will never change. “When searching for a place with the proper setting for indoor football, we were immediately drawn to the welcoming Greater Binghamton community that has had success with a variety of different sports in the past. We truly feel that IFL football is something that would be a great fit in the Triple Cities. As we continue to finalize the details necessary to make this successful, such as finalizing our discussions with the County, we are very encouraged with our progress to date” Matt Custer, General Manager of Binghamton Indoor Football said.
This vision requires an arena, a 50 yard field and much quicker decisions from the quarterback as this game revolves around speed, accuracy and power. Taking the weather out of play might be nice for a community that is ranked 15th on the USA Today’s list of snowiest cities around a decade ago, but it’s the fast-paced family fun that will keep the fans at the edge of their seats at the arena on game day. With a chance to interact with the players after games, the IFL has provided a model that is exciting and fun.
With family-friendly ticket prices, the focus now is on the community. Sponsors from businesses and investors alike will be needed in order to ensure the success of the franchise. Gaining the support of local businesses and community partners is essential to represent the IFL properly and to show the Southern Tier that football really does belong in the Greater Binghamton area. Within the next few months, press conferences, a name the team contest, and player signings will be part of the plan to generate the success needed for a February kickoff early next year.
