HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY - Receiver Aric Evans is moving back home, sort of. The former Eastern Kentucky Driller will play the 2012 season for the Northern Kentucky team.
A Cincinnati native, Evans was a first-team Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) selection last season. Evans was third in the UIFL in scoring with 33 touchdowns. He was sixth in receptions (5.3) and receiving yards (73.6).
"It is all about weapons and Aric is one of the best WR weapons around," said NKY head coach Brian Schmidt. "His ability, along with other weapons we are bringing in, will allow us to have the opportunity to take this offense to another level."
For Evans, the decision to play four hours north of his 2011 home was two-fold.
"Well, I felt like I had a better chance of not just winning games, but winning a championship," said Evans. "Also, my family wanted to be able to see me play a lot more. Last year, they only got to see two of the 16 games.
"I also like the way Coach Schmidt is doing things to make the team better. I feel like I have a better chance of making it to the next level being a part of the Northern Kentucky organization than others, whether it's the NFL, CFL, UFL, OR AFL."
The Northern Kentucky team, which will be named soon, will play its home games at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.
