MARION - The Marion Blue Racers indoor football team has named former Ohio State University standout and veteran NFL player Lorenzo Styles as their new head coach.
Styles was a two-time All-Big Ten linebacker and Butkus Award finalist while with the Buckeyes.
He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 1995 and spent six seasons in the professional ranks. He was a member of the St. Louis Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf" team, which won the 1999 Super Bowl.
Also coming on board as an assistant coach for the Blue Racers will be Melvin Tuten, another third-round selection in the 1995 NFL draft. He was picked by the Cincinnati Bengals and played pro ball for the Bengals, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.
Blue Racer CEO and general manager LaMonte Coleman said Styles and Tuten will be major assets in the development and recruitment of young football players as they aspire to join the NFL.
"I want to thank Mr. Coleman and the Blue Racer organization for welcoming me and giving me this opportunity," Styles said. "I plan on using my success in the NFL and with The Ohio State University to bring a championship to Marion, Ohio."
Coleman was pleased the Blue Racers could land Styles as head coach.
"We just got better with the overall marketing and development of young professional athletes looking to ascend to higher leagues with the hiring of coach Styles," Coleman said.
Styles replaces Ryan Terry as Blue Racers head coach. According to the Blue Racers organization, Terry "stepped down due to time conflicts with his full-time job as a manager at Buckeye Ranch in Columbus. The Blue Racers will welcome him back when his schedule permits."
