Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League prides itself on providing quality, high energy, entertaining football for our fans nationwide; however, the IFL also prides itself in developing and preparing its' players for higher levels of professional football.
Over the last four years the IFL has cultivated players to reach their potential in the United Football League, Canadian Football League and the National Football League. Following are just a few of the stand-out players that the IFL has helped reach career goals:
National Football League:
- Keenan Mace (DL): From the Allen Wranglers to the Dallas Cowboys
Mace attended Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri where he posted up 26 tackles, 10 of which were solo tackles, 0.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in a single season. While with the Allen Wranglers for the 2011 season, Mace only played 9 games; however, he had 43 total tackles, 25 solo tackles, 6 sacks, and a forced fumble.
- Maurice Simpkins (LB): From the Green Bay Blizzard to St. Louis Rams
Simpkins blossomed his senior year at Coastal Carolina University in 2004 where he had 78 tackles, 41 of them were solo, 5 sacks and an interception. Simpkins' high productivity continued with the Green Bay Blizzard in 2010 with 126 tackles, 85 solo tackles, 5 interceptions for 2 TDs, 1 forced fumble, and 3 broken-up passes. Simpkins signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2010, where he played 2 games; he is currently with the St. Louis Rams for the 2011 season.
- Anthony Armstrong (WR): From the Odessa Roughnecks to the Washington Redskins
Armstrong played West Texas A & M as a wide receiver where he had 145 receptions for a total of 1768 yards. Following college, Armstrong played with the Odessa Roughnecks for a stellar season with 55 receptions for 760 yards and 18 TDs. After playing with the Roughnecks, Armstrong moved on to the AFL for 2007-2008, and then joined the Miami Dolphins' practice squad. In 2010, Armstrong signed with the Washington Redskins, where he posted up 44 receptions for 871 yards and 3 TDs in 15 games.
- Adrian Awasom (DL): From the West Texas Roughnecks to the Minnesota Vikings
Awasom started at the University of North Texas with a total of 147 tackles and 22 sacks for his career totals. After college, Awasom signed with the New York Giants for 2005-2007. There he played a total of 17 games for 14 tackles and 1 sack. In 2009 and 2010, Awasom played for the Las Vegas Locomotives (UFL) earning 34 total tackles, 6 sacks, and 4 broken-up passes. Awasom signed with the West Texas Roughnecks for the 2011 season; however, duty called with the Minnesota Vikings.
- Fred Jackson (RB): From Sioux City Bandits to the Buffalo Bills
Jackson started out at the Coe College in Cedar Rapids; in 2004 Jackson moved up to the NIFL with the Sioux City Bandits, where he was noted for 53 rushing and passing TDs. The following year, Jackson had 1770 yards for 41 TDs. In 2007, the Buffalo Bills signed Jackson, which has been his home ever since. To date, Jackson has 647 rushes for 2860 yards, 10 TDs, 136 receptions for 1093 yards, and 4 TDs.
- Giovanni Stanley (WR): Tri-Cities Fever to the San Diego Chargers
Stanley attended Whittier College in Los Angeles, California. After college, Stanley played with the Tri-Cities Fever for the 2011 season, where he stacked up 4 receptions for 26 yards and 2 TDs. Stanley's talent was spotted by the San Diego Chargers, where he signed in 2011.
Canadian Football League:
- Dennis Kennedy (RB): From the Tri-Cities Fever to the B.C. Lions
Kennedy started his career at the University of Akron. With Akron he had a total of 556 carries for 2522 yards, and 27TDs, as well as, 93 receptions for 745 yards, and 2 TDs. Kennedy's collegiate success continued with the Tri Cities Fever in 2011. During the regular season, Kennedy earned 574 rushing and receiving yards for 17 TDs. Kennedy assisted the Fever into post season with 163 yards for 2 TDs. Currently, Kennedy has joined the B.C. Lions (CFL).
- Brandon West (RB): From the Green Bay Blizzard to the Saskatchewan Roughriders
West attended Western Michigan University, where he acted as running back and kick returner. West carried the ball 732 times for 3671 yards, and 25 TDs; West had 126 receptions for 958 yards and 6 TDs. West also returned the ball 127 times for 3118 yards and 1 TD. West's great success at Western Michigan led him to a successful career with the Green Bay Blizzard, and now with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
- James Robinson (WR): From the Chicago Slaughter to the Saskatchewan Roughriders
Robinson started out at Butler County Community College, which was followed by a professional career with the Chicago Slaughter. For Chicago, Robinson totaled 55 receptions for 560 yards and 17 TDs. After playing with the Chicago Slaughter, Robinson signed with the Toronto Argonauts in 2008; currently Robinson is signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL.
United Football League:
- Chase Vaughan (LB): From the Colorado Ice to the Las Vegas Locomotives
For 2 seasons, Vaughan played for Colorado State University - Pueblo, where he had 70 tackles, 5 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles. In 2011 Vaughan joined the Colorado Ice where he had 25 tackles, 17 which were solo, 2 sacks, 1 interception and 1 broken-up pass in only 5 games played. Currently Vaughan has taken his talents to play with the Las Vegas Locomotives.
- Arkelon Hall (QB): From the West Texas Roughnecks to the Sacramento Mountain Lions
Hall attended the University of Memphis where he passed 235 times for 2607 yards and 12 TDs. Hall also had the opportunity to rush for 203 yards and 3TDs. Hall acted as quarterback for the West Texas Roughnecks in 2011. During the 2011 season, Hall completed 132 of 244 passes for 1737 yards and 31 TDs. Hall completed 25 of 37 of his passes for 314 yards and 7 TDs during the 2011 playoffs.
The Indoor Football League looks to have continued growth and success in the years to come, which includes elevating current players and bringing in new ones.
IFL Commissioner, Tommy Benizio states "Though the IFL's primary goal is to provide all of our stakeholders with great football, it is amazing to see our players being able to take the skills and lessons learned from their respective IFL teams to further their careers in the NFL, CFL, and UFL."
