daytonprosports.com/2011/08/11/silverbacks-hosting-cifl-league-meetings/The Dayton Silverbacks professional indoor football team have announced that they will be hosting the Continental Indoor Football League’s annual meetings this year.
The meetings will take place at the Ramada Inn Dayton on August 20-21, with all current CIFL team owners as well as prospective franchise owners being in attendance. The Silverbacks have invited Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell as well as Trotwood Mayor Joyce Cameron to address the attendees.
Area media outlets, along with Silverbacks corporate sponsors are also invited to attend.
This will be the seventh season for the Silverbacks in the CIFL. The six team league saw the Cincinnati Commandos and Marion Blue Racers join the rival Ultimate Indoor Football League, while the Port Huron Predators folded mid-season amid financial troubles. That leaves the Silverbacks, Chicago Knights and Indianapolis Enforcers as the remaining teams as the CIFL looks to rebuild.
It should be noted that for indoor football teams, changing leagues in the off-season is fairly common.
The Silverbacks appear to be taking the lead in helping the league office recruit new teams for 2012. Undoubtedly, the Silverbacks had their own opportunities to move to a new league next year, however they chose to remain a CIFL franchise.
Dayton had a 5-5 record in 2011, good for third place in the CIFL and a playoff berth.
