nems360.com/pages/sports_buzz_full/push?blog-entry-All+quiet+on+the+indoor+football+front%20&id=14888911&instance=sports_buzzThe month of July is ending without any news about a new indoor football league team for Tupelo.
It’s been six weeks since the Ultimate Indoor Football League announced plans to play in BancorpSouth Arena next season.
Since then, the league has been sold to a Georgia businessman, Cecil VanDyke, but there have been no public announcements about the Tupelo team. At the time of the initial announcement, a “formal press conference over the summer” was promised to fill in details, including ownership.
Last week, the UIFL announced that former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen has been named commissioner. Lorenzen was the league’s MVP last season.
Five of the six teams from the UIFL’s inaugural season will return in 2012, to be joined by perhaps as many as seven expansion teams, including Tupelo.
The UIFL will hold a league meeting on Aug. 12-14 in Ft. Myers, Fla. A news release about that meeting said an official schedule won’t be finalized until October.
