ALLEN, TX-Keenan Mace, former defensive end for the Allen Wranglers is taking his talent to the National Football League. Mace signed with the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week and is set to begin training camp with the team in San Antonio on Thursday.
"It was one of the most amazing things that happened to me, "Mace said. "Waking up to a phone call from the Cowboys saying they wanted to sign me was so unreal. I couldn't tell if I was still sleeping or if it was reality."
Wrangler head coach Chris MacKeown was not surprised by the Cowboys' decision to sign Mace.
"Keenan is loaded with talent there's no doubt," MacKeown said. "It's exciting that he got signed by them."
With a record of 12-5 in their first season as an Indoor Football League franchise, the Wranglers won the Lonestar Division title and made an appearance in the Intense Conference championship. MacKeown said that his team was scouted regularly in their inaugural season from several NFL teams who have regional scouts living in the area.
"Our players get a lot of looks," MacKeown said. "There were opportunities for Keenan and it just worked out." Mace said he's proud to be a part of the Cowboys organization and excited to play for Dallas fans.
"As a kid I told everyone I would be an NFL player, "Mace added. "I didn't know if my life would take this turn, but all the hard work, sacrifices and dedication paid off in the end."
