After Green Bay defeated the Reading Express on June 25 in the Conference Semi-Finals, the Blizzard were back in action Saturday night as they traveled to Sioux Falls, S.D., to face the Storm in the Conference Finals.
Green Bay (12-4) faced Sioux Falls earlier this year, which was the first-ever meeting between both teams, and was handed a loss in a hard-fought contest on the road.
The Blizzard were determined to exact revenge on a Sioux Falls squad that had only suffered one loss to date and was looking to reach the championship game in the Indoor Football League for the first time in team history.
Despite a fairly good effort by Green Bay on the night, Sioux Falls was able to control the game the entire evening and defeated the Blizzard 52-12, ending the team's season.
After a missed field goal by Green Bay place-kicker Joshua Shene on the team's first offensive series, Sioux Falls was able to march down the field and score a touchdown on a 1-yard run by running back James Jones.
Minutes later, Sioux Falls added to its lead when quarterback Chris Dixon scored on a 5-yard keeper. The Storm gained possession of the football following an interception thrown by Green Bay quarterback Willie Copeland and led 14-0 in the opening minutes of the game.
The Blizzard responded on the next series when Copeland found wide receiver Bryan Pray streaking down the middle of the field behind the Storm defense for a 38-yard touchdown. The Storm lead was cut to 14-6 with 2:35 remaining in the first quarter.
Following a 1-yard touchdown run by Sioux Falls, Green Bay received a 40-yard field goal by Shene, helping the Blizzard to keep pace with the high-scoring Storm offense.
The Storm added a 22-yard field goal by Parker Douglass and a 31-yard touchdown pass from Dixon to wide receiver James Terry to close out the first-half scoring. The score read 31-9 in favor of Sioux Falls at halftime.
Green Bay opened the third quarter on defense and got the football back after a missed field goal by the Storm. The Blizzard looked to gain some momentum after the stop, but had its field goal blocked from inside its own 5-yard line.
The miss gave the Storm excellent field position and two plays later they were able to score once again when Dixon plunged into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run.
After the Storm added yet another 1-yard touchdown run by Jones, Green Bay received a 48-yard field goal from Shene to close out the third quarter.
Sioux Falls held Green Bay scoreless in the fourth quarter and added seven more points to the score.
With the loss, Green Bay's stellar season ended, but the Blizzard enjoyed the most wins (12) in team history. For the game, Green Bay got an outstanding effort from wide receiver Bryan Pray, who caught five passes for 70 yards and scored one touchdown. Place-kicker Joshua Shene also enjoyed a good evening as he added two more field goals (43, 48 yards) to his season total.
