ALBANY, Ga. – Cecil Lester threw for 263 yards and ten touchdowns as the Albany Panthers pulled away to a 69-48 victory over the Louisiana Swashbucklers in the 3rd Southern Indoor Football League Championship Game before a 7,453 in the Albany Civic Center Saturday.
The Panthers (13-2) outscored the Swashbucklers (10-5) 48-21 in the second half to claim their first league championship. Louisiana has appeared in all three SIFL title games, winning the inaugural championship in 2009.
Louisiana led 27-21 on Sammy Knight’s 25-yard 15 seconds before halftime.
Albany scored the first two touchdowns of the second half on Lester passes to Antwone Savage and John Harris and never trailed again.
Lester, the game MVP, threw five TD passes to four different players in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Harris (8 catches, 83 yards) and Savage (8-43) each caught three touchdown passes while Clenton Rafe (8-100) had two. The Panther defense was paced by ten tackles and a sack by Cory Rue and an interception from Antwonti Curtis.
Knight rushed for three touchdowns and completed 23 of 33 for 264 yards for three touchdowns for the Swashbucklers. Marcus Wilridge had 8 catches for 96 yards and a score.
