www.americanpress.com/lc/blogs/wpnewssum/?p=22815KATY, Texas — Chris Hudler made sure the Louisiana Swashbucklers returned to a championship game.
For the second week in a row, the linebacker scooped up the ball on an onside kick and returned it to the end zone for a key touchdown.
Hudler’s scamper with 33 seconds left gave Louisiana the 56-41 lead it would hold onto as it beat the previously undefeated Houston Stallions Monday night in the Western Conference championship game of the Southern Indoor Football League.
“He was Johnny-on-the-spot,” Swashbucklers head coach Darnell Lee said.
Louisiana (10-4) will play the Albany (Georgia) Panthers in the SIFL championship game Saturday night in Albany. The Panthers beat the Columbus Lions 75-61 in the Eastern Conference championship last Saturday.
The Swashbucklers are looking to return to the top after losing 68-13 to the Lions in last year’s title game, a defeat that ended a run of three league championships.
“Forty-five percent of these guys have never played in a championship,” Lee said. “Some of them came here for that. They played with some hunger.”
Houston was a big hurdle.
