ALLEN, TX-The Allen Wranglers are headed to the Intense Conference championship thanks to a 72-54 win over the Fairbanks Grizzlies on Friday night.
The Wranglers travelled to Fairbanks earlier this season and suffered an embarrassing 55-37 loss to the previously 0-2 team. Though hesitant about the trip, the Wranglers knew a win was necessary to keep their championship hopes alive. Dedrick Poole was the standout performer for the Wranglers this week after sitting out of the Wranglers first playoff game against the Wyoming Cavalry. Poole had a total of five touchdowns and 146 yards receiving against the Grizzlies.
"People wrote us off but we've got a great group of guys all fighting for a championship," Poole said.
The Wranglers ended the night with just over 300 yards of total offense. The team tallied a total of ten touchdowns against Fairbanks; Wranglers contributing to the scoring were Poole, Keithon Flemming, Bobby Chase and Jackie Robinson. Wrangler quarterback Kewan Dewberry threw for a total of 287 yards. Dewberry threw for 55 yards in the teams' first matchup as a backup to Anthony Fisher.
Dewberry and the Wranglers are set to return to Allen on Monday evening. After a league-wide bye-week, the Wranglers will face the winner of the Tri-Cities Fever vs. Colorado Ice game for the Intense Conference championship. The winner of that game will go on to face the United Conference winner in the United Bowl for the Indoor Football League championship.
