Amarillo, TX 6/15/11 - The 2011 season is over for the Amarillo Venom, but they have been named finalists in several of the Indoor Football League's Year End Awards.
Individual finalist nominations include: Randy Sanders, for Executive of the Year; Kyle Wilson, for Most Improved Player; and Barrett Allen, for the Adam Pringle Award which is given to the player or coach who exemplified outstanding service and dedication to their surrounding community.
Wilson, who was nominated for the most improved player, finished second in the IFL with 13 sacks, nine more sacks than he had in 2010 when he recorded four sacks in 13 games. He also recorded eleven more tackles in 2011 than he did in 2010.
"Kyle showed what hard work and dedication during the offseason can do," said Joe Morgado, the Venom's general manager. "He put in a lot of time and effort and improved drastically because of it."
Allen, who has been nominated for the Adam Pringle Award, is being recognized for his contributions off of the field. Allen made several appearances in the community throughout the season to talk to children about the importance of education and being responsible.
"Not only is Barrett a great football player, he is also a great person," said Morgado. "We try to give back to the Amarillo community as much as possible and Barrett does a great job of leading the charge when it comes to giving back."
The Venom was also nominated for several organizational awards which include Best Game Operations, Best Team Web Site, and Best Media Relations.
"I think all of the nominations are a great representation of our organization," said Morgado. "We try to do the best we can do both on the field and in the front office. To be recognized by our peers as the best in the league in several areas speaks volumes of our staff."
Each of the IFL's 22 teams vote on the Year End Awards. Each team picks a first and second choice for each award, with the first choice receiving two points and the second choice receiving one point. Teams are not allowed to vote for themselves or their players.
