Steel Shake Off Rust, Blank Stampede In Second Half For Eighth Win
HARRISBURG, Pa. - It took the Trenton Steel a half to get going, but they out together an overpowering second half to rout the Harrisburg Stampede, 52-22, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Equine Arena Saturday night.
The Steel (8-4), trailing the determined Stampede, 22-21 at halftime, kept the home team off the scoreboard in the second half. Trenton is slated to open the Southern Indoor Football League playoffs at Columbus (11-1) next weekend. Harrisburg's season ended at 2-10.
Trenton's defense harassed Harrisburg quarterback Brian Harris into six interceptions, with Gladel Brutus, Matt Leotti and Dez Maul each recorded a pair of picks.
Starting Steel quarterback E.J. Nemeth threw five TD passes -and passed the 3,000-yard mark in yardage. Oderick Turner caught two of them, and broke the 1,000-yard mark in receptions.
Willingboro native Antoine Rivera caught a pair of TD passes after missing the last three games with a mild concussion.
The Steel, after an 0-3 start, won eight of its last nine regular-season games and enters the SIFL playoffs in strong fashion.
