Amarillo, TX 6/10/11 - The Amarillo Venom will travel to Odessa tomorrow to take on the Roughnecks Saturday, June 11th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. and can be watched on the B2 Network under the media tab on the Venom's Web site www.govenom.com, or listened to on 107.1 FM The Armadillo.
The Venom is coming off of a dominating performance against the Bricktown Brawlers in which they won 77-0 in their home finale, while the West Texas Roughnecks is coming off of a 92-6 home win against the Arizona Adrenaline.
The game against the Roughnecks will be the Venom's final game of the 2011 season as they fall just short of the playoffs.
"We've been playing better the last couple of games, but we need to finish the season strong," said Daniel Snyder, the Venom's defensive coordinator.
The Venom will try to get a win for their Head Coach Julian Reese who will miss the game as he attends his father's funeral in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In his absence, Coach Snyder will be responsible for calling the offense.
"We had a good week of practice and our guys will be ready to go," said Coach Snyder.
Both units played extremely well last week. The defense forced five safeties and scored two defensive touchdowns, while the offense continued to click under Quarterback Sherard Ellis. Ellis finished the game against the Brawlers 10-13 with 86 yards passing and four total touchdowns (two through the air and two on the ground). In his last two games Ellis is a combined 18-23 with 243 yards passing and nine total touchdowns.
"Ellis has played very consistently since he joined our team," said Coach Snyder. "He's going to need to continue to play well and take care of the football because West Texas is a very good team."
The AMARILLO VENOM is a proud member of the Indoor Football League.
