Amarillo, TX 6/9/11 -Head Coach Julian Reese will not be at the game Saturday, June 11th, against the West Texas Roughnecks as he will be attending his father's funeral in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
"Our thought and prayers go out to the entire Reese family," said Joe Morgado, the Venom's general manager. "I feel for Julian during this difficult time for him and his family."
Coach Reese learned of his father's death Monday morning just hours before his team was set to take on the Bricktown Brawlers, but decided to coach the game and led his team to a 77-0 victory.
"Sports have always been an escape for me and being able to coach began the healing process," said Coach Reese. "My dad would have wanted me to coach and would have wanted me to do the best that I could."
In the absence of Coach Reese, Venom Defensive Coordinator Daniel Snyder will be responsible for running the offense as well as the defense. He said everything will continue to run as if Coach Reese was there.
"Everything will be the same as if Coach Reese was here," said Coach Snyder. "Every week we game plan together and we each have an equal understanding of both the offense and the defense."
If the Venom needed any extra motivation for their game against the Roughnecks, they've found it in their desire to win for their head coach.
"We want to get the win for Coach Reese," said Barrett Allen, the Venom's defensive lineman. "Since Coach has taken over we've become a family. He's family and we want to take care of business for him."
The game against the West Texas Roughnecks will be the Venom's final game of the 2011 season. The game can be listened to on 107.1 FM The Armadillo or watched on the B2 Network. The pregame show is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. with kickoff scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
