The Bloomington Extreme moved to 9-4 on the season with a 45-29 win over the La Crosse Spartans in front of 4,229 fans at US Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington Friday night.
The Extreme jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half on touchdown runs by Andre Raymond and Antonio "Hollywood" Ficklin, as well as a leaping grab by James Walton on a 23-yard double-reverse-flea-flicker pass from Rocky Hinds. The Extreme opened it up to 35-6 at halftime on a pair of Raymond touchdown runs, the first of which set the all-time Extreme single season record for rushing touchdowns at 14.
La Crosse stormed back in the third quarter with 16 straight points, narrowing the gap to only 13. But a Peter Christofilakos field goal and a 3-yard touchdown pass to John Cooper opened it back up to 45-22, before La Crosse added a late touchdown.
The Extreme next face the Wichita Wild in Park City, Kan., on June 11 in the regular season finale.
