The Blizzard returned home Saturday night to face the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks with two games remaining in the regular season and with the playoffs quickly approaching.
Green Bay (10-3) built a 45-point lead at halftime and cruised the rest of the game for a 61-25 victory at the Resch Center, moving one step closer to clinching the Great Lakes Division crown.
Blizzard running back DeMaundray Woolridge led the first-half scoring surge with four rushing touchdowns (1, 2, 1, 1 yards). His four rushing touchdowns ties a Blizzard single game record set by Randy Bell last season. Woolridge finished the game with 19 carries for 32 yards. Wide receiver Bryan Pray also helped pace the Green Bay scoring attack as he caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Willie Copeland (35, 30 yards) in the first half.
The Green Bay defense enjoyed yet another successful performance by scoring two touchdowns in the contest and forcing seven turnovers. The defense allowed only three first-half points.
The first defensive touchdown came with 0:20 remaining in the second quarter when defensive back Ellis Powers forced a Steelhawks fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.
Blizzard defensive back Mike Turner scored the second touchdown when he returned an interception 29 yards in the fourth quarter.
Place-kicker Joshua Shene continued his recent success by adding two field goals on the evening, including a 52 yard field goal in the fourth quarter. He also made six extra points.
Next week, the Blizzard face the Chicago Slaughter on Friday, June 10. Game time is 7:30 p.m. It will be an early Fathers Day Celebration at the Resch Center as WBAY TV-2 and the Blizzard will be giving away Golf Umbrellas to the first 1,000 men 21 & over.
