Vipers Defeat Minutemen in Inaugural SOAR Football League Game
Broderick Johnson hit Kevin Marshall on the third play of the game for the first score in SOAR history for the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers. The quick strike led to a first quarter explosion by the Vipers who jumped out to a 20-8 first quarter lead and never let the Auburn Minutemen pull within a single score until a late rally with only 3:34 remaining in the game. When the Minutemen elected to kick deep, thinking they would get the ball back, Viper bruising running back Chris Moore pounded out a couple of first downs and ran out the clock.
Please check the new schedule below as it has been updated due to scheduling conflicts when the Vipers went into the Southern Indoor Football League. While the Vipers lost, it was an amazing experience for the players and coaches. The Vipers look forward to another chance indoors. Hopefully, other teams in the league will soon begin to get noticed just as the Vipers did.www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=soarfl

Over the past few days, the expansion of the Southern Outdoor Arena Rules Football League has gained momentum. On Tuesday, June 21, owner Chris Alba made plans to create an expansion team in the Atlanta area. On Wednesday, he made contact with several players and hired a head coach. Today, he announced the team's new name, the Atlanta Venums.
Also, today, the Florida Cheif's owner, Jarvis James, announced that his team will also be joining the league. Both owners are already planning exhibition games for this summer and look forward to a full schedule next season.

Notasulga-based Vipers tackles outdoor arena-rules leaguewww2.oanow.com/sports/2011/jun/24/notasulga-based-team-tackles-outdoor-arena-rules--ar-2024632/Football fans looking to get their fix aren’t out of options yet.
The Chattahoochee Valley Vipers are a semi-pro football team based in Notasulga, competing in exhibition games throughout the summer. They face the Alabama Hawks on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Notasulga High School.
Tickets are $6 at the gate.
The Vipers play arena football rules — but outside.
“When I first started, it took me by surprise,” said team captain Robert Cattage. “But when you get out there and see it, it’s a lot more fun than it sounds.”
Quarterback Owen Searcy likens the game to “flag football but with pads on.”
The rules are the same as arena football — the field is smaller — 28 yards wide and 66 yards long. Games consist of four 15-minute quarters with a running clock, only stopping for timeouts and change of possessions. Teams can also earn points by putting the kickoff, from your own goal line, through the uprights.
“The smaller field is good for us big guys,” said the 6-foot-6, 285-pound Cattage, who graduated from Loachapoka in 2001. “We don’t have to do as much running.”
Vipers’ coach Roland Bell, who coached football and girls basketball coach at Notasulga, has been calling up other football coaches to try and get them to play exhibition games against his boys, but most often the coaches are skeptical.
“When I first call coaches saying ‘Come play us exhibition,’ several of them were like, ‘Arena rules, you gotta be kidding,’” Bell said. “They didn’t think it was going to be serious.”
The Vipers, a part of the Southern Outdoor Arena Rules Football League, beat the Georgia Tigers, 39-6, two weeks ago, after which some Tigers said next time they are going to get it together and compete.
“Like Coach Bell said, instantly when you ask teams to play they say, ‘No,’” said Searcy, who graduated from Beauregard in 2003. “But then when they come over and get whipped, they want to play again.”
However, the players are more like volunteers, paying for their own jerseys, equipment and transportation — what they are really looking for are sponsors.
“Some people are interested, but they don’t want to get involved until they see a team out there playing, bringing in fans,” Searcy said. “That’s the biggest thing — fan base — then it goes from there.”
The team has a large majority of players who are college students, while others, like Cattage, have day jobs.
“This is a chance for a lot of guys who drifted away from the game,” Bell said. “It’s their chance to get back in it and maybe get checked out by the arena leagues.”
Even though the Vipers are a semi-pro team, playing for them doesn’t affect college eligibility. Bell said a handful of guys have “one, maybe two years” of college experience.
“It’s a great opportunity for guys that didn’t get recruited that want to have some kind of game film, that can come play and get exposure,” Searcy said.
The Vipers roster sits at around 20 guys, all with hopes of one day being an official arena football team.
“We would love for people to come cheer us on, help build a fan base,” Searcy said. “This is the only football in the country right now.”
