TWBTWs needs to return to IFF for sure!
Oh to remember the 20-0 shut out of Sioux City in the Crackerbox...sorry BLZ. If I'm not mistaken, that was the first shut out ever wasn't it? Great game to be at. Gotta love the Christmas lights as goalposts.

The Caps missed the playoffs that year because the NIFL changed the playoff rules with about a week left in the season.
I don't remember Sioux City ever beating the Caps at the Crackerbox (they may have beat the Lightning though).

What an awesome post! I didn't follow the game in 2002. Seeing the stats from that year is great. I was looking at the Renegades stats and under rushing I see Chris Coffin played 2 games. Then a guy named C. Coffin played a game and a guy named Coffin played a game. C. Coffin and Coffin had a combined 13 rushes while Chris Coffin had 12. Other runners had similar names. F. Boyd, and Fred Boyd, Rick Little, and R. Little. Still my favorite player name has to be 28. It's fun to pick at but even more fun to look at. I hope to see more of these.

Coffin in 2002 was on the replacement team that took over the Renegades' road games by year's end. Their stats were included on the 2002 statistics.

Great great day in Capitol history...too bad about two years later we were getting beat that badly. The blowouts like that certainly didn't help make the game any more legit. Hopefully ALL LEAGUES can get to a point where the same team isn't winning every week (KK, SFS, Various Michigan City Pirates) or there aren't any outrageous blowouts.

I remember some of those replacement teams. Some would travel cross country with a few guys (who could play ball) thrown together without a legit roster, coach, practice, or game plan. Many just played 'out of position' against top competition such as Ohio Valley. Talk about being thrown to the wolves!! Ouch !

OV at least used the opportunity to play their depth. Lincoln used the opportunity to give their fans a show.
If I were in the same boat...the indoor football scoring record is 132. Don't think the fans that put their money out there wouldn't know that.

Don't think the fans that put their money out there wouldn't know that. If I were at that 'show', I would have left at the half. One of the best coaches I seen handle blowouts was a high school football coach. He never insulted the opponents when he had the superior team even though they would routinely do it to him. After grabbing a comfortable lead, the 1st offense would be rested but the 1st defense would be left in. That year our team had 3 shut out victories of only 21-0. They could have been 42-0. Tony Cachia RIP. That was at high school were seeding had to do with wins and not points. Note that the honorable method does not work in college where points mean a lot (in rankings). . As far as a rooting for a record, it would be one thing if it were two league teams playing one another, but to beat up on a few gladiators (replacements) who try hard so as not get the 'show' to be cancelled, isn't a record at all (IMHO). It's an insult.

Lincoln substituted quite liberally, and some even got the opportunity to play other positions along with a few other experiments. There were starters that had wrapped up their night by the half.
The game wasn't good for bringing back new fans, that's for certain. I had a few checking out the game for the first time.
That Lincoln team was loaded. Should've done better in the playoffs than they did. A controversial missed FG by Chace Long allowed the Outlaws to proceed through to the championship game. They should've won it. We would've. ;D
