Tulsa, OK The Oklahoma Defenders were officially notified today by the American Professional Football league front office that "The game between the Oklahoma Defenders and the Colorado Lightning for this weekend has been postponed due to a time-intensive revamping of the ownership group in Colorado. Every effort will be made to resolve all the issues, including a revision in the schedule, by the first of the week." The notification comes one day before the May 19 scheduled event.
The Colorado Lightning management have been unavailable for comment.
The Defenders' general manager, Lamar Baker, commented "We are suprised and disappointed to hear about this game being cancelled. The game will be ruled a forfeit win for the Oklahoma Defenders. We would have rather played the game as scheduled, but will use this time to allow players to heal and coaches to regroup. We will host a team outing for players this Saturday instead, and are planning to attend an indoor professional football game in Kansas. Then, it's back to getting focused for our May 26th home game against the Springfield Wolfpack, the War on I-44."

hope they werent going to see the koyotes game it has been cancelled also Koyotes were at Springfield. I guess that wouldn't be such a long drive from OK. Someone know why this game was cancelled as well? That makes two weekends in a row that the Koyotes haven't had to travel.

For such a solid league, as far as not cancelling games, its starting to snowball on them. With Springfield's population base, and being established, they should have a stronger player pool then what they had this year. For some reason, players are not wanting to play for the Wolfpack. Springfield has the potential to have a good team each year. There website doesnt even mention there home game is cancelled.

Well one problem is that Springfield doesn't pay their players. Their venue only seats about 700 to 800 and their not selling out. So with out major sponsors the owner is'nt making money. And its not like Springfield, MO is a football power with alot of great football players so playing for free is a problem when it comes to getting good players.

I was told the max amount a team could pay a player was $50 per game. I wouldnt think that would a big factor in a kid wanting to play. They did have some descent players last year but it really dropped off this year. I know there venue doesnt seat many but it is fairly cheap rent. Maybe someone can make it work there, but I think the ownership must change to make it happen.

I believe the pay is $0 to $75 a game and if you are working for the team you can make $200 a game. Plus the 90 mile rule cuts into their pool of players. The Wolfpack has been in the APFL since 2007 and they have been over .500 once I think.

How would the 90 mile cut into there player pool?

the 0-$75 with $200 if they are an employee leaves to much wiggle room for teams. I think the flat 0-$75 without the possible $200 makes it a little more even.

Because teams are not providing housing so the players have to live with 90 miles of the team. The league is based on using player in that team area. So the team can have a good fan base. Their are not alot of good players that live in 90 miles of Springfield. Their around a lot of colleges in that 90 miles but once those players finish playing for that college they go back home.

I would think that within Springfield and a 90 mile radius, which includes joplin that there a good players that want to play. I just feel that the management has not done a good job of engaging the local talent. Make the experience of playing for the wolfpack one which players look forward too. I went to there first game this year and went a defenders game and prety much knew after watching the wolfpack, they wouldnt win a game.

Your right about Management you have to make the team bigger than what its. They can push the team as the next step to a bigger team or league. I own the North Texas Crunch. Thats what I do but players from team do move up plus we play teams in bigger leagues. I played college ball in the area and I'm from Texas. Every 90% of the player on my team and teams around us where from out of state. Thats why I said about the player pool.

Have you started your season yet? I own commercial real estate in Arkansas, I have looked at owning a team but there is not a suitable building in my area.
