LAKE CHARLES, LA (JUNE 12, 2010) – For the third time this season, the Louisiana Swashbucklers (5-5) of the Southern Indoor Football League returned to .500 on Saturday night after defeating non-conference opponent Louisiana Conquerors (0-1) 71-12.
The Conquerors came in as a last minute replacement for the West Texas Rustlers who back out of this weekends match up earlier this week.
To open the game, Louisiana scored on a 25-yard touchdown reception to Henry Hunter from Freddie Harrison and the Bucs tacked on two more scores with fullback Kendrick Perry running one in and another long Harrison touchdown pass, this time hooking with Marcus Wilridge from 45-yards out.
Louisiana continued to pour on the points in the second half when Conquerors quarterback Dustin Moreau was tackled for two safeties and Harrison threw scoring passes to Jabari Hendricks and Ellis Mead. The Conquerors were able to get some first half points when Moreau found James Beauer for a touchdown as the Swashbucklers controlled the game heading into the half with a 51-6 lead.
Conquerors Moreau would find Beauer once more in the third quarter, but even as Jermaine Davis replaced starter Freddie Harrison the Bucs offensive onslaught continued getting the Black and Purple Gang two more scores putting them up 65-12. Defensive lineman Eddie White recovered a fumble in the end zone for the fourth quarter’s only score sealing the 71-12 victory over the Conquerors.
The Swashbucklers have next weekend off before their vital match-up against the Lafayette Wildcatters (5-4), which could decide which club takes home the SIFL’s third seed in the playoffs. Louisiana will also be looking to avoid being swept, as Lafayette owns the season series 2-0 including a 63-47 win last weekend.
